Unshakable Love

#BoldBeliefDevotional by Paul Natekin

Key Bible Verse:

“Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:39 (NIV)

Have you ever felt like your mistakes or shortcomings might push God away? It’s a common struggle, feeling that we might be too flawed for God’s love. But let’s explore the depth of God’s unwavering love for us.

Apologetic Insight:

(from Greek ἀπολογία, ‘speaking in defense’) Defending and explaining faith with reason and evidence.

In his book, The Love of God, D.A. Carson reflects on the nature of God’s love, stating, “God’s love is not a soft, sentimental affection, but a relentless, unyielding, and unconditional commitment to His people.” This echoes the sentiment of Paul Washer’s words, highlighting that despite our failures, God’s love remains constant.

Theologian and apologist John Lennox explains, “God’s love is not based on our performance but on His character. His love is not swayed by our sin or our righteousness.” This perspective is rooted in Romans 8:39, where Paul assures us that nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even our own actions or lack of them.

Encouragement & Application:

It’s comforting to know that God’s love isn’t contingent on our perfection but on His unchanging nature. Here are some ways to embrace this truth:

  • Daily Reflection: Take time each day to reflect on God’s love, not your own shortcomings.
  • Prayer: Ask God to help you see yourself through His eyes of love.
  • Community: Share your struggles with a trusted mentor or community to gain perspective and encouragement.

Remember, your value to God isn’t based on your performance but on His relentless love for you.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What doubts or feelings have you experienced that make you think God might not love you?
  2. How does the assurance of God’s unchanging love affect your relationship with Him?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love that never fails, even when I fail You. Help me to rest in the truth that nothing can separate me from Your love. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your unwavering commitment to me, and guide me to live in the light of Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
