Seeing God in Creation

#BoldBeliefDevotional by Paul Natekin

Key Bible Verse:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.” — Psalm 19:1-2 (NIV)

Have you ever stopped to look at a sunset, a starry night, or the vastness of the ocean and felt something stir inside you? It’s like the world itself is whispering a message about something—or Someone—greater. If you’ve ever wondered if God is really there, let’s take a moment to consider how He shows Himself to us every single day through the beauty and wonder of creation.

Apologetic Insight:

(from Greek ἀπολογία, ‘speaking in defense’) Defending and explaining faith with reason and evidence.

This idea of God revealing Himself through nature is what theologians call “general revelation.” It’s not a message written in a book or spoken in a sermon—it’s available to everyone, everywhere, at all times. As Psalm 19 tells us, the heavens and skies are constantly declaring God’s glory. Norman Geisler, a respected Christian apologist, often emphasized that the intricate design and order of the universe point to a Creator. He argued that even without a Bible, we can look at the world and see evidence of God’s power and divine nature. Romans 1:20 backs this up, saying that God’s invisible qualities are clearly seen in what He has made, leaving us without excuse if we ignore Him. While general revelation doesn’t tell us everything—like how God saves us through Jesus—it’s enough to show us that He exists and invites us to seek Him.

Encouragement & Application:

So, what does this mean for you? It means that God isn’t hiding. He’s revealing Himself all around you, waiting for you to notice. Take a moment this week to step outside—really look at the trees, the sky, or even a tiny flower—and let it remind you of God’s presence. If you’re wrestling with doubts about whether God is real, start with what you can see. Pair that with reading the Bible to learn more about who He is. And don’t hesitate to talk to a trusted friend or mentor about what you’re discovering. God wants to meet you right where you are.

Reflection Questions:

  1. When was a time you felt a sense of awe or wonder at something in nature? How might that point to God?
  2. How does knowing God reveals Himself through creation affect the way you see the world?
  3. What’s one step you can take to seek God more through both nature and His Word?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for showing Yourself to us through the beauty and wonder of Your creation. Help me to notice the ways You’re speaking through the world around me, and give me a heart that seeks You more. When I have doubts, remind me that You’re near, waiting for me to turn to You. Guide me as I grow in understanding who You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
